Chapter 1
"Nancy! Breakfast!" Randy Warren yelled from the kitchen.
The nine year old girl opened her eyes. She looked at the clock, 6:05 a.m. Today was her birthday,; she didn't even need to look the calendar.
She wanted to just stay in bed, but Randy would be upset.
She walked out of her room in her uniform for school to see her uncle had decorated the living room for her birthday.
"Happy birthday doll!"
She hated that nickname.
"Thanks Randy..."
She hated her birthday, the only good thing about it was that it was always on the last day of school.
He pulled out a chair for her at the kitchen table.
He put a plate of pancakes with frosting and cherries in front of her. "Just the way you like them."
"Thanks..."
He gave her a weak smile, knowing he couldn't make her enjoy her birthdays. He didn't blame her,. o On her sixth birthday, she saw her parents died, on her seventh, a kid was stabbed in front of her at school, then on her eighth birthday she was pushed down a flight of stairs to the basement of a building and was knocked out.
If she wasn't pushed down those stairs, she would ofhave died. A mad shooter entered the doors of the place and everyone in there died. He didn't check the basement, it was a miracle!
"So because it's the last day you get the choice to stay home or go."
"I'll go.. I wanna say bye to my friends... and grabbed the rest of my stuff..."
Randy did her hair while she ate.
Nancy's mother used to put it in pigtails,; he tries to do the same but can never put the same amount of hair in each tail.
"Fuck..." He said to himself looking at the clock.
He got done with her hair and got ready for work. Nancy waited on the couch with her book bag.
Once he found his briefcase, they left.
"Happy birthday Doll!" Her best friend Kenny said hugging her.
"Thanks Ken."
"Aw! The freaks even find love!" Said Susan, the fifth grade bully taunted.
Nancy would normally say something, but she doesn't talk much on her birthday. Kenny knew this, he knows everything about her.
Kenny just grabbed her wrist and led her to class.
"I got you a present, but you don't get it till we get home."
She smiled because she saw how happy Kenny was. He was sweet,; knowing him, he got her another doll.
Everyone got her dolls. That's because her dad always said she looked just like a doll. That's why some call her doll.
Kenny and her known each other since they were born.
Their mothers were best friends.
Throughout the last day of school people said "happy birthday doll!" and "have a good summer doll!".
It wasn't until they got back to their apartment building that Kenny finally gave her the present.
Their apartments were across from each other. They had keys to each other's because they always went back and fourth.
"Stay here and close your eyes." He said.
Nancy was standing in the middle of his living room.
Kenny was giggling and was smiling like a dork when he told her to open her eyes. A little box was in his hands.
"Go on, you can open it."
She slowly grabbed it and opened it.
It was a little puppet. It was a girl dressed in a black dress and blue heals. The prettiest thing about her was one of her eyes was green and the other blue, like Nancy's eyes.
"She's beautiful Kenny, thank you."
"You're welcome!"
He pointed to his cheek.
"As if.," Sshe said laughing,. hHe always cheered her up a bit.
She went back to her apartment. Randy was making the cake.
