The preceptors served as a role model for the newly registrant. In preceptor-ship, preceptors’ professional responsibilities are to advancinge their professional experience and practice in order to guide and supervise newcomers in the field of nursing. Preceptor-ship may support the retention and decrease the turnover of the nurses through supporting newcomers in their transition phase. Preceptors hired by the organizations must be prepared and have the understanding of the basic adult teaching and learning principles, which are imperative for the preceptor-ship. The admiration of health care organizations and the Pakistan nursing education system is recommended to be supportive towards the preceptors, and consider the methodologies of Knowles’ adult learning theory, preceptor conceptual model, and Benner’s novice to expert model in preparing preceptors for their roles.
