In the past decade, the emergence of social networks has completely changed people’s administration of their free time. In fact, studies support the theory that people are increasingly spending time in front of their electronical devices, usually keeping up to date by Facebook or Twitter, rather than reading the newspaper. Additionally, the sociotechnological changes are mcakusing progressively people’s cultural knowledge to be set aside.
Being well informed about what is happening in the world is crucial, in order to avoid some issues caused by ignorance. To give an illustration of what I mean, it is important for citizens of Spain to be aware of politician’s corruption so they don’t for vote them anymore. Similarly, watching the news allows society to raise consciousness about global concerns like climate change, cruelty, poverty, or war. Sometimes, social networks can provide us effectively this information effectively. However, it is important to doubt and distrust all the information, and eventually contrast it with other informative sources.
Concerning the culture, it is noticeable how literature, music, and movies are experiencing some changes. Being able to download free books, music, and films by internet, people are not spending as much time and money as in the past in concerts, reading books, or cinema. It is significant that culture is being transformed by technological evolution. Nevertheless, cultural direction is unpredictable and changes don’t mean deterioration or decay.
All this things considered, it seems reasonable to assume that keeping up to date with news is the most important to grow a better world. That said, not only is it important araising awareness, but also to take actions to improve the situation (recycling, giving donatives to undeveloped countries…).
