The epic poem Beowulf was written between the 8th and 11 centuray by an Anglo-Saxon poet, given to people who inhabited Great Britain from the 5th century.
Beowulf is the protagonist of the epic story. hHe fights the monster Grendel, his mother, and also a fire breathing monster dragon.
Beowulf wants to prove that he is the strongest hero.
An epic hero is a literary character from ancient mythology and other stories, which were written down in the form of long, narrative epic storyies.
Beowulf is a great epic hero because he is a brave courageous men, he plays a very great part as a prince, and is a succesful woarrior.
Beowulf’s begging starts with a very detailed imagery of how Grendel looks like. The epic describes Grendel as a “powerful monster, demon friend, monster, living in the darkness.”.
All of these descriptions gives us a clue that Grendel is a big scary horrifying Mmonster that causes harm.
Grendel appears at night and kills anyone in his way for example, “He appears at the hall late one night and kills thirty of the warriors in their sleep. For the next twelve years, the fear of Grendel's fury casts a shadow over the lives of the Danes. King Hrothgar has no option but to look for someone to kill this monster for the best of the people. Beowulf then hears about the kings trouble and gathers fourteen of his greatest warriors to accompany him, he sets off to South Sweden.
Beowulf then boasts to the king of his courageous acts. For example, “I drove five great giants into chains” or “I swam in the blackness of night, hunting muskets out of the ocean and killing them one by one".
