Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS),; sometimes also referred to as Contract Manufacturer (CM), is a term used for manufacturing companies that contract with the customers to produce products or components. It is an organization that engages in product assembly, engineering services, order fulfillment, product distribution, and aftermarket services. This form of outsourcing is catered for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) markets, and produces products. sSubsequently, after the purchases ordered, and branded with name, sells them to its OEM customers ("EMS Industry," 2015).
Generally, the business model in EMS industry focuses on electronic products, start from raw material procurement, pulling resources, specializing in industrial design, as well as provides value-added services such as warranty and repairs. As a service provider, this frees up the customer from producing products or keeping inventories.
