The MOTAD programming method is a linear approximation of the quadratic risk programming (QRP). In order to solve the problem of estimating the variance-covariance matrix for QRP from the absolute deviation of the crop returns, the means of their returns are used. Therefore, in MOTAD method, risk calculation depends on mean absolute deviation (MAD). This pattern can be easily inserted in the linear pattern programming. If the incomes of the farmers have a normal distribution, by changing the expected income of MOTAD pattern in a parametric way, we can get similar answers as QRP.
