The history of this wonder is assigned to an idea that comes from the year 1859. During a visit to Rio de Janeiro, the priest Pedro Maria Boss, proposuggested ithat wa religious monument be erected at the top of the Corcovado Mountain a religious monument. Even though, the project was delayed, Christ the Redeemer was resumed focusing on the celebrations of the centenary of the independence of Brazil. The Corcovado Mountain was chosen to house the monument because it is the highest place of the city. The Brazilian President, Epitácio Pessoa, requested a petition thawit had thousands of signatures to build the statue. The President then donated the top of Corcovado Mountain for the construction of the monument.
