Abstract
Over the last two decades, severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes are known as simple methods to make ultrafine-grained metallic materials. Simple shear extrusion (SSE) and Cyclic expansion extrusion (CEE)
arewere recently introduced as SPD techniques. The bothBoth SSE and CEE processes generate significant deformation inhomogeneity, with different values of strain in center and surface, which causes mechanical instability of the materials. In this study, to solve this problem, a tandem process of SSE and CEE is proposed. The finite element method is used to analysisanalyze the deformation behavior during the processes. The results show that the tandem process can produce almost homogeneous deformation.
