Changes in the Roman army and leadership allowed for the invasion of the empire. When Rome had established itself as a Superpowersuperpower, and there were no enemies left to defeat;, a laxation in militaristic requirements resulted. Parade drills were abandoned, and soldiers were no longer required to wear armor. However, in the event of an attack, fighting soldiers went into battle without protection. Surrounding armies easily made their way through and pillaged, pillaging the Roman empire, until they reached its center.
