Regardless of how egotistical one may be, there is some inclination for them to be interested in the fortune of others and this renders their fulfillment essential to oneself. One gets nothing from this inclination except for the joy of seeing and feeling them. Empathy and sympathy both involve this inclination which we feel for the wretchedness of others when we either observe it or are made to consider it. Everyone can experience sympathy or empathy in some manner or form, though some might not experience it to the extent of others or they may have some mental impediments which restrict it. Empathy is characterized as being able to share and comprehend the feelings of others. Sympathy, on the other hand, is feeling pity for others who experience misfortune.
In this paper, we will investigate whether or not individuals ought to be empathetic or not. TowardTowards the start of this paper, I will inspect the contrasts amongbetween empathy and sympathy since individuals get these two methodologies confused. Later, I will demonstrate Paul Bloom’s theory on empathy and its shortcoming, whoshortcomings. He avows that individuals ought not to have empathy, and when they do, they are doing more harm than good. Later, I will explore Simon Baron-Cohen’s theory on empathy, who trusts thatclaims that individuals require empathy infor their lives to be successful. At that point, I will thoroughly analyze the two speculations that have been advancedhighlighted and see which one holds up. All in all, I concur with Paul Bloom that individuals need not bother with empathy when trying to figure out what is the moral thing to do.
