Extraordinary achievement makes an impact. In my school district, achievingachievement is promoted but it is quite a struggle. It is common to get peer-pressured into joining the delinquents and achieve so-called “cool” status. So, I challenged myself to break from all things of that nature to do my best and achieve a quality character. What I have done was help to break the stereotype of a low-achieving African-American coming from an urban area.
I started trumpet lessons in elementary school and it took me to greater heights. I played in high school for the community, parades, and basketball and football games, showing what good can come from my high school and city. For a year, I was a materials officer in band administering the equipment. Being an upperclassman means mentoring to fellow band and orchestra members through the bleakest of days. It is like family matters.
For some time, I went to a county tech school (LCTI). LCTI opened me up to different trades and people. I have met and befriended people of different races, showing how a good student can break the negative effects of bad press the local news has on my city. To add to thatAdditionally, I challenged the prejudice and peer pressure to focus more inon my career and one. One result was becoming a lab safety foreman. It did not just end there,. I stayed focused, stood up for myself and others, worked hard and smart, and became a leader while getting excellent grades in advanced and college-level classes and leading my chess team.
The impact I have made in my high school and community has made people proud of me and, the city they live in, and school they attend. This gavegave people a new perspective on a person like me coming from where I come from.
