The school board is proposing a new graduation requirement for the class of 2021. Seniors would newneed to show they have acceptancebeen accepted to a college or have secured a gap-year program, a trade apprenticeship, military enlistment, or a job offer.most Most of the highschoolershigh-schoolers don't think this is a good idea. ImI'm not 100 percent forsure the school board should do this, butat least not by making it into a sort of diploma recruitment.
TheThose kids thatwho do not do thisobtain any of the above-mentioned examples will be denied a diploma, unless they have a waiver for “extenuating circumstances.”. YouAll students should be able to graduate with a certain number of classes or credits, notwithout needing proof of what you’rethey're doing afteranything, and what, once they're out of high school. Your inKids attend high school for 4 years, if you don't need since for your after school creere than why do it. Why wasn't your time when you can be doing something that can help you.not with their careers in mind then why else?
Yes, it canthe 'recruitment' may benefit some people, but why put everyone thought it.through it? If the students complete their workeducation and pass the STAAR test, they should be able to go on in thetake whichever path they want later. College isn't for everyone and putting this classhaving to enrol in school isit as a college class andrequirement to graduate is not everyone will takefair, instead of helping it andrisks making it a mandatory class can't hurt anyone but it makes people stress morestudents even more stressed than they already are.
StudentsBesides, students could have so many ways to playfool the system. Just because someone is accepted into college or hired by a company it doesn’t mean they are actually going to attend that school or work at that job. Anyone can get into a community college. Graduating students could easily say they are going there when they're really not.
Let's not push students to take this class. If they want to take this class and not have as much stress the first year of college let them but it's there decision and not ours to make it a requirementin unnecessary ways. Let their future be one they choose for themselves, not the fulfilment of an obligation.
