There were seven different ways of coding and the most popular was ciphers and coded letters. They were used to ensure if or when caught, the letter could not be understood. In the cipher, letterletters represented and replaced other letters to hide the true message. This beingwas only known to be practiced by Culper Ring Spies (American spies). Another technique was invisible ink which was well used by both British and American spies.
