According to Lyiscott, she has plenty to say about the way she uses her English language. As she states in her poem, she uses three different kinds of English in different settings. Her language is usedlanguages speak equally to each other. In her poem, she states, “Now, you may think that it is ignorant to speak broken English, but I am here to tell you that even articulate Americans sound foolish to the British. So when my professor comes on the block and says, “Hello,” I stop him and say, “No, you’re being inarticulate. The proper way is to say ‘What’s good?'” Now, you may think that’s too hood, that’s not cool but I’m here to tell you that even our language has rules” (Lyiscott paragraph 4). Jamila Lyiscott hasgives a great explanation of when she believes that the way to say “Hello” is, “What’s good”good?”. When she uses her English it all comes down to the roots of her culture. Saying, “What’s good”good?” is different from the typical American culture as the normal greeting is “Hello”, but Lyiscott uses her languages uniquely towards others.
