The first bar chart illustrates the number, in millions, of weddings and separations among American people between 1970 and 2000, and the second graph compares the proportion of adults in terms of their marital conditions in the years 1970 and 2000.
It is clear that the number of marriages in the USA was much higher than that of divorces over the period mentioned. Besides, married people constituted the most significant bulk of American population in both years.
The data in the first graph suggests that, in both 1970 and 1980, we had 2.5 million cases of marriage in the USA, while the figure showed a steady decline of 0.3 million in 1990, and reached a low of 2 million in 2000. From 1970 to 1980,
the number of divorces saw a rise of 0.4 million, but it declined by 0.4 million in 2000.
Based on the second bar chart, in 1970, married couples were by far the
mostbiggest important proportion of American adult population, with 70%. However, The figure for the single and widowed population was lower, at 15% and 8% respectively. Percentage of adultadults was lowest for the divorced population, with only 2% of the total. By 2000, the percentage of married onesadults fell by 10%, while single and divorced people saw a slight rise of almost 5% each.
